Some time ago, I wrote about my experiences developing in caffenol. In my version of the recipe I used 5 table spoons of coffee and 2.5 table spoons of soda. And for sure, the smaller amount stains the film. The Lucky SHD400 that got developed in the more diluted caffenol ended up some shade of brown. I can't show you any examples as the film was mostly blank (which I already expected as I found this film in my Zeiss Ikon and just took it out). Unfortunately, the few frames that were exposed weren't very good. But this does not matter. What matters is that the more diluted caffenol works and gives the staining. I'm now thinking of still using table spoons but half the number of scoops. I don't really care much for the staining after all and prefer the beautiful shades of grey the stronger caffenol gives me. Now I just need to find out where the balance lies. I hate to waste, so the less coffee and soda I need to use the better it is. This seems to have no detrimental effect on the developing of the film. :p I do think, though, that compared to the tea spoon measures I used yesterday, today's films show a bit more... how to say... sharpness or acutance. I think I'll stick with the 2.5 and 1.25 table spoons of coffee and soda. Fourthly, my little FED-2 has a problem. It scratches the film. I guess it's the film plate that's causing it, and that's not good. I may have to check the other FED-2 if and when it ever returns. :) Plus, the 1/500 sec shutter speed caps the film. It means that the shutter isn't working flawlessly at that speed, which of course means I either can't use that speed or I have to send it for a CLA. The CLA will probably work out to more than 50 euro, or more than the value of the camera. Fifthly, scanning film is a bitch! It takes sooooo much time! I really have to force myself to develop film in the week it was exposed and scan it right away. Or else I'll end up with another 300 rolls of exposed but never scanned and thus never seen films. At least, that's what happened when I was shooting a roll of colour film on average per day.
